Challenger Marty Dolan Takes on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Democratic Primary
Retired insurance executive Marty Dolan is shaking up the upcoming June Democratic primary by challenging Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York’s 14th Congressional District. Dolan initially planned to challenge Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the 16th Congressional District but switched races to avoid complicating things for George Latimer, who is also looking to unseat Bowman.
In an interview with City & State, Dolan expressed his belief that Ocasio-Cortez is the leader of a radical movement and that the district is ready for a Democratic alternative. He criticized what he sees as “radical” policies and ideas from both Bowman and AOC, emphasizing the need for slow and deliberate change in politics.
Dolan, who currently lives in Westchester, has committed to moving into the district once redistricting is complete. He plans to run a grassroots campaign, using a mobile van to reach constituents and prioritize constituent services.
Despite facing an uphill battle against the well-established Ocasio-Cortez, Dolan remains confident in his chances, citing what he perceives as waning support for the incumbent in Queens. He also addressed the issue of campaign finance, criticizing the obscene amount of money in politics and highlighting his campaign’s focus on efficient spending.
As the primary race heats up, Dolan’s challenge to Ocasio-Cortez adds an intriguing dynamic to the political landscape in New York. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
